SERMAS is one of the largest university hospitals in Spain (1500 beds, 22 buildings, 800 physicians, 7000 workers). It provides direct healthcare to 450.000 citizens, and is referral center for high-tech care at a national level. All research activities are coordinated through the FIBHGM. The Department of Cardiology at the Servicio Madrileno de Salud Madrid, Spain, is the largest heart centre in Spain. It has 4 divisions (Clinical Cardiology, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Invasive Cardiology and Research and Education), has 33 cardiologists, with ~25 fellows and newly qualified specialists and ~20 visiting researchers. Every year, more than 35,000 patients visit the 7 out-patient clinics of the department and more than 5,000 cardiac patients are admitted in the 47-bed cardiology ward and the 11-bed coronary care unit.
SERMAS will contribute existing cohorts of patients with ACS, CAD and HF. With their clinical department they will also contribute in prospective recruitment. Their renowned expertise in clinical trials and biomarker research will help to implement the statistical concepts, the quality control, and data management.
